Election Night
2016 I held my nose and voted for Donald Trump. I was not convinced that he was a conservative and thought him more of just another democrat in red or drag if you will. What he would have been like had the Clinton Democrats not reacted like the spoiled entitled group the have become, we will never know.
Today I voted for Donald Trump with my eyes wide open and with great satisfaction. At this point there is no winner called yet. It is a very close race. Much closer than it should be but that is 2020. If Trump does win it will be because of his seemingly bottomless well of energy and enthusiasm. Something Joe Biden has shown little of but then he wasn’t really running against Trump. Trump was running against Trump. Or the perception of what people have of him. After four years of a constant daily barrage of negative coverage it is of little surprise that the perception of the average person is not a good one. In spite of all that he has proven to be one of the most successful Presidents we have had in perhaps a hundred years.
Being a natural pessimist when it comes to relying on the good sense of Americans I do not see Trump pulling this rabbit out of his hat. If he should, it gives me some hope for our future. It tells me that The Almighty has given us a reprise. A chance to correct the course we are on so to speak. Our society has been devolving rapidly; this past year has shown that quite clearly. If Biden wins it is clear that the continued slide to oblivion will continue with the rapidity of Joe Biden’s mental acuity. Why do I say that? Something that was written in the year 57. In what is considered one of the greatest pieces of writing Paul’s letter to the Romans has some very interesting and distressing (for us) passages.
Chapter 1 verse s 18 to 32 could be said to be our own current society:
18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.28Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
If this Nation was ever a “Christian” Nation it is not one now. The forces of evil have gained such an inroad in our national psyche that we have separated ourselves from our Creator enough that He has lifted his hand of protection from us as He did many times with Nations whose leaders turned their back on Him. The Bible is at the minimum a great history book. And history does repeat itself.
Should Trump be the victor this day it does not mean everything is kosher with our Creator. It only means that a reprieve has been granted, a chance to correct our course. It will not be easy or quick. Like trying to lose weight after putting on an extra 90 pounds over 10 years it takes tremendous will power and constant awareness of your eating habits. God is a patient God when it is apparent that people are correcting their ways and He always gives warnings when the line has been crossed. Let’s hope He is renewing His patience with this Nation that was founded holding Him in homage.
