American Short Glances IV
Las Vegas
It has been over a month now since a whack job or a terrorist or a whacked out terrorist shot up a country music concert. It would have been easy to jump all over it but it is better to stop and wait for the hysteria to dissipate even just a little bit. Stepping back and watching the worn out play of those involved has been disgustingly humorous for me. Some of the faces have changed but the mantras remain. The fifty plus victims have been buried and will now privately live in the memories of their loved ones and publically be unabashedly used by an agenda driven left. Meanwhile the true reasons why a terror driven madman are left to be speculation. The government through the FBI, Nevada State Police and the LVPD has operated as they always operate. Their abilities in investigation are unsurpassed but the flip side of that is their ability to obfuscate and mislead in order to steer public opinion. It is an unfortunate fact that distrust and suspicion is the general reaction to “government findings” in matters as tragic as Las Vegas. But it is totally warranted. I was not born a sceptic. It isn’t true that my first thought upon being slapped on the ass was to question that I was indeed alive; but growing up in the somewhat free atmosphere of America I have become a first rate cynic (some who know me believe it is more like a second rate crank). A popular saying and sentiment in the 1960’s and 70’s was “Question Authority” but as is the usual case; those who used that as a rallying mantra are now the “Authority” and the first commandment of Authority is “thou shall not be questioned“.
So what is the truth about Las Vegas and it’s now infamous shooter? Who knows? And is it important that we know? The moment that these things occur the truth behind it and the motivations of the perpetrator are secondary and generally forgotten and often covered up. Was he an ISIS operative as they claim? Was he part of a “hit” team that was a Lee Harvey Oswald patsy? If either of those narratives are accurate rest assured that we will never be officially confirmed by the FBI. I suspect that he was just someone whose mind crossed over to crazy and had the wherewithal to legally purchase the armory he managed to fill his hotel room without the aid of a bellhop. His choice of venue is telling. Just as the two evildoers in Columbine chose their chief tormentor (their co – students at the high school) he picked out a large gathering of Country Music lovers attending a concert. What does that show you ask?
It is not a State secret that the common perception within the left/liberal group that President Trumps main support is derived from “country music” lovers. Remarks made by several leftist/liberal commentators, comedians and otherwise reflect what a lot of that group are feeling and though they were quickly disavowed by the main stream liberal they were just expressing what a large number of that demographic actually feel. Since the rejection of the coronation of Clinton and the election of an outsider the left/liberal groups have been going through a period of denial, then foot stomping followed by violent temper tantrums. “Fly over” country folk have been derided for their ignorance and lack of sophistication and insight to serious social matters for years and their overwhelming support for a brash, blunt New Yorker only proved what was always believed. Am I saying that the shooter was directed to shoot up a Country Music concert by George Soros or Hillary Clinton? Of course not. No more than the evil doer who shot up the black church in South Carolina was led by the ghost of Robert E. Lee and the Confederate flag to kill. Evil will do what evil does. The Las Vegas shooter chose his venue as a statement. If that night instead of a Country Music affair it was a celebration of Urban Rap he would have stayed home in Mesquite and not taken up arms. To start he would have known the audience; Country Music followers for the most part love their guns but they also respect the law and would leave their weapons at home (it has not been acknowledged yet if it was a “gun free zone”). That is one reason why one of the more iconic pictures to come out of the shooting is of a man holding a beer in one hand and extending his middle finger to the shooter. If it were a Urban Rap get together you can be reasonably sure that there would have been return fire almost immediately. That is not a slam on the followers of Rap either.
After the Vegas shooting the same old cries from the same old hacks arose. Ban guns, ban guns, ban guns. On and on it goes and it is rather tiresome. Those society manipulators would stop at nothing to further their cause to disarm law abiding citizens. When asked how well the ban on drugs and other illegal substances is working they start repeating mantras about guns most of which is wrong. Politicians looking to push that agenda start pontificating on how a “bump” stock turns rifles into machine guns and the unthinking minority of citizens swallow it all. I never heard of bump stocks before the Vegas shooting. I thought that bumping a stock referred to what the government did to distort the economy and mislead the people into believing we are all prospering. Hearing the claims by the idiot legislators caused me to check it out and to my utter surprise their hysteria was completely unfounded! Go figure. I am pleased however because I do see a return to rationality to the general population, at least a majority. Happenings such as these as sad and anger producing as they are will continue and what we should be doing is focusing on personal safety and always keeping your mind ready for anything. Unlike the Pentagon you should have an exit strategy and yes, you should be carrying a weapon. That does not mean carrying a gun but whatever you carry just be familiar with it’s use and application. And for God’s sake and yours -either stay away from Gun Free Zones or ignore that piece of idiocy. They are magnets for whack jobs looking to make a statement. I don’t know why they just don’t start a blog site?
THAT time of year
Fall brings many things. The beautiful change of colors in the trees, cool dry air, spice wafers and sweaters and the anticipation of hot chocolate or hot buttered rum. Fall or Autumn could easily be my favorite time of year. But with every silver lining there is a cloud. Elections. This being an “off” year meaning nothing on a National scale is actually the more important and most annoying election. The focus is on “local” officials and the quality of life and government interference starts here.
Hatboro is a somewhat quiet town of 7,000 give or take a thousand. It use to be quieter, but a lot of that is my advancing age speaking. It has changed since we moved here back in 1977 but the past few years has seen a more ominous change. Like all the suburban towns we are experiencing an overflow from the dump just south of us that is more commonly called Philadelphia. If you study it there are parallels between America and it’s immigration pattern and the suburbs of Philadelphia. Migrations of people are mainly created by escaping oppressive governments and/or desires for a better chance of a successful and peaceful existence. In America millions of people came here either voluntarily or as slaves and indentured servants bringing with them a multitude of cultures. The strength of America was that all these different cultures melded to become one culture while remaining individually strong within the immigrant groups. Somewhere along the way we have allowed the left to “Balkanize” our Nation and immigrants are not encouraged to assimilate in fact to do so is deemed racist and anti-immigrant. The same thing happens with the migration from Philadelphia. The people fleeing the high taxes, high crime rate and corrupt politicians and moving into the surrounding counties are bringing the very culture that they are running from; some innocently others with that in mind. It makes one wonder why and how refugees, even from an American city, want to continue with the same failed group of people controlling them?
Hatboro has been a traditionally Republican town. I generally vote for several (not all) Republicans for the Council position and the Mayor was a Democrat who I knew and liked personally so he got my vote. We received a pamphlet for the Republican “team” and frankly I was not impressed. The hundred word write ups next to their pictures sounded more like they were running for the Prom King and his court than for political office. What came through was they are all very nice people and are all very community oriented. It did not address any issues that concern the homeowner, shop keeper, taxpayer etc. That was very disappointing and troublesome. It tells me that someone is coaching them to appeal to a non thinking Democrat (aka Philadelphian). The only Democrat that came to our door was a woman running for Mayor. She had been on the Town Council several years ago and was behind a proposal to pass some LGBT ordinance the would have left every shop owner at their mercy. At the public hearing the hall was packed with mostly young LGBT types from communities outside of Hatboro attempting to force their will on Hatboro residents. It failed to pass when the Democrat Mayor at the time voted no on the measure. I believe this woman did not retain her seat after the following election. But she is back now and it does not bode well for the taxpayers and shop keepers of Hatboro. Will that be enough to get me to vote Republican? I doubt it this time. I am tired of playing that game of lesser of two evils. I fear that we should have voted with our feet 10 years ago and migrated further away from the corruption of Philadelphia.
Taking a Knee
I am so pleased to see the start of the demise of the NFL. And it isn’t for the reason you may believe it to be. I started seeing the NFL in a different light back in the 80’s when the players had their first “strike”. There is something wrong when millionaires go on strike against multi-millionaires when the base consumer of the product is a guy who eats peanut butter sandwiches everyday from a brown bag. Then we entered the 90’s when the teams started to see their temples ageing and hold taxpayers hostage for a new playhouse. That practice continues on and not just with football as all the professional sports have this attitude. Why do the taxpayers have to be involved at all? The owner(s) of a team should foot the bill and if the need arises sell stock to raise the money. Do you think that the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles would have trouble selling stock in a new stadium? It would mean less control for him probably but in the long run it would be more profitable for the team AND the taxpayers. Then we get to the players.
For myself the NFL was king back in the 60’s and 70’s and it was mainly due to the players. I know they were not angels and perhaps the press protected them but they were no where near todays professional football player. Now the NFL stands more for the National Felon League because of the athlete’s penchant for violence outside the confines of the coliseum. I understand why they want to take a knee to protest the criminal justice system – a good number of them have a personal stake in the matter. I have no problem with their exercising their freedom of expression because they are ticking off a fan base that are beginning to realize how boring that game has become and other things will start to wean them away from “Americas” Game.
How and why it has become such a bore is easy to see. The constant use of instant replay to confirm or reverse the ruling on the field by paid officials is the primary cause. Why has the replay booth become the center of attention? The gambling industry controls the game. So much money is bet on games that instant replay is a means to take out human error that may affect the outcome of a game. The result is longer games and officials who are more prone to have a “oh well” attitude.
So don’t get too angry at the guy kneeling in protest. He is helping to kill a dirty rotten out system. Just hope that he has a good financial planner that has his money in a safe place for when the league collapses. But then, if you think about it the owners could appeal to Congress for a bailout with the claim of being too big to fail – and guaranteed season box seats – and they will be saved.
Clowns in Cowboy Hats
The most recent distraction from the main stream press is the supposed disrespect from President Trump to a warriors widow. Without going into the sordid details suffice it to say that it seems that it was all a scam to raise money. The day before Congresswomen Frederica Wilson came forth with the charges that the President was rude to the widow she had opened a “Go Fund Me” page to benefit the widow and their three children. Since the allegations made by the female version of the late great Flip Wilson the funding has grown to $700,000 which says much about American generosity. So what is the problem? There were three other comrades killed and at least one other has a similar funding page which has earned almost $60,000. The difference is one having a circus barker making false accusations and the others with a quieter and more dignified approach. The political sideshow takes away from the sacrifice that these warriors made and the questions of why they were even there are forgotten or overshadowed by a loud mouth clown in a cowboy hat.
There is a saying that honey draws more flies than vinegar but this clearly shows that horse manure out draws both.
Harvey Hollywood
Hollywood has been taken a beating lately. Revenues have been falling from movies pretty steadily the past several years, it seems that creativity has been abandoned or voluntarily fled the scene as remakes of remakes are now the trend and once again the sleaze of the Hollywood culture has escaped to the open air. Since it’s inception Hollywood has drawn sexual deviants, perverts and abusers like nothing known to man (except maybe totalitarian socialist regimes) but yet Americans are still surprised and feign disgust when the cockroaches are exposed to light.
While the details and numbers are gross to consider for most Americans what the media is overlooking (surprise, surprise) is the political connection to the democrat party and the influence that all the donations have bought these slime from Hollywood. The District Attorney in New York refused to investigate and prosecute Harvey Weinstein which would have spared some victims for cash contributions. Who is the worse creature in this horror story? Is it the insatiable evil Harvey Weinstein or a whore of a slime ball District Attorney Cyrus Vance who is suppose to protect the people? The DA as a good liberal democrat is a supporter of women’s rights only as far as the abortion table it seems. It may be taking longer than common sense should allow it but it is catching up to the corrupt Democrat party. The hypocrisy has always been there but as more of these abuses occur the tighter the noose. I don’t expect that the leadership or the well known “spokespeople” to get it but the rank and file Americans are starting to catch on. One of the more enjoyable aspects is to see the paragons of liberal philosophy like Ben Affleck who ran interference for the likes of Harvey back track and express shock and dismay but only after the public outcry. The Hollywood phonies who are placed on a high pedestal by adoring fans who appreciate someone who can repeat memorized lines started to believe that what they say actually means something (much like this blog) but what they are learning is that their words and actions do have consequences and they are now all scurrying about like rats on a sinking ship.
What is troublesome is how our culture has been poisoned by the values of Hollywood. The victims of Harvey all played a part in that they played along for the ego rush of a Hollywood career. It wasn’t until one woman kept beating the drum publically did the story break and then it seemed that all the women in Hollywood have been made “victims” by this slug. For many, it was and is just a career decision and they have no problem allowing a guy like Harvey to use them because they were using him at the same time. That happens in varying degrees everyday in every business. A narcissistic boss does not have to throw you on the desk or force you on your knees to abuse and manipulate you. It is the silent acceptance that is the problem. It may be out of fear or rationalization but the silence allows people like Harvey to continue on with impunity. It falls to the first “true” victim to stop it. If the first women that Harvey abused had come forward immediately or put an ice pick in his ear and taken the consequences how many other women would have been spared? As I am sure that there are men who are in similar situations the same applies. But, isn’t that taking the law into your own hands? When the law is corrupt as it was in the New York District Attorneys Office and anywhere money and politicians are concerned, your own hands are all you have.
What has happened to our society is that we have been conditioned to believe that protecting yourself, your loved ones or even strangers is not the right thing to do. We allowed “society” to assume the position of protector to the degree that the slugs like Harvey Weinstein are running the show and the only protection provided is hopefully a thin piece of latex or other material if he chooses to use it. Evil must be fought at the start. To allow it to grow unhindered only makes it harder in the long run.
