Jerusalem and Other Promises
“I will fight for you with every breath in my body – and I will never, ever let you down.”
President Trump has once again proven what a wise choice he was to most American voters. He has during his year as President slowly gained my admiration and anyone with an open mind who looks beyond the constant rhetoric of the out of touch leftist Democrat Party and it’s sycophants in the media will agree. During the Republican primaries he was a third or fourth choice of mine because of his liberal tendencies. However, I enjoyed his out of step nature in how he ravaged the likes of the establishment politicians like Bush, Rove and the phony conservatives who have misled and lied to their Republican base and the American people and he literally tore the mask off their corrupt ways. He did so in a manner that my two favorites Cruz and Paul could not nor would not have done. While he has torn the mask off he has not and I am afraid can not put a dagger through the heart of the D.C. corruption. The establishment is firmly in control of the Republican Party as can be seen by it’s inability to achieve anything of value to the people who put them there. With the twin towers of empty values in McConnell and Ryan in charge of Congress the establishment has blunted the advancement of the desires of the American voters and Trump. But Trump has just continued on being who he is – Donald Trump. Is he perfect? Hardly. But when one ponders who could have been President it does make one shudder.
In his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s true capital and stated plans to move our embassy there he has fulfilled yet another of his campaign promises. And perhaps the most important one. Unlike his predecessors who promised such an act and then swept it under the rug, Trump has made good on his promise. If an Obama, Bush, Clinton or any of the numerous presidential wannabes had done that it would have been an astoundingly courageous act but with Trump it was and is Trump being Trump. He has proven to possess the true spirit of being an American. Recognition of Jerusalem was a promise he made and more importantly it was the right thing to do.
The recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital is important on several levels. In our growing secular society the importance of the religious aspect is not appreciated as much as it should be, but it is by far the most important aspect in the Middle East. The city has been the holy city for Judaism for over 3,000 years; Christianity since Jesus’s triumph and the Muslims hold it as the third most holy city since the 6th. century, so it is easy to see the religious importance. Since the time of David it has been recognized as a Jewish center even though it has been one of the most conquered cities in history.
The second aspect is political. Trump seems to be doing away with the politics of appeasement. He will negotiate but it seems that the negotiations will not start with an apology or a giving in to a temper tantrum or a threat of one. The excuse used to not recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital was that it would hold up the peace process. Peace process? The “peace process” to the Palestinians means only a delay until another Arab/Israeli war breaks out and hoping the outcome is different than the past wars. The “leaders” of the Palestinian people are not interested in peace with Israel and unfortunately it seems that the average Palestinian just follows along. Not too much unlike our democrat voters and many republican supporters also. It may be that we are only led to believe that by the anti Israeli bias in the news media and I suspect a good number of Palestinians just want to be left alone to worship as they please, to work and care for their families as they see fit. That is the natural condition of man after all is said and done. Then why are there so many divisions amongst us? It isn’t complicated as it is portended to be but it does require thought (critical thinking) and a willingness to understand and accept and there is the rub.
Trump has shown the courage to act on his promises and not follow the dictates of those who have been ordained as wiser then the rest of us. He does not speak like them, he speaks like us. He knows what he wants and will work his damnedest to achieve it regardless of what others may say. The most important attribute may be that he is not beholding to anybody. I don’t believe that there is a politician alive that doesn’t owe his soul to someone. None of them work for the voters or the people. Trump is different. He seems to want to do the right thing so people can succeed and I think that is why he won and why he will win again if things remain the same. His actions do come with a price. The price to him is the unending attacks on him and his family. The main stream press has shown their true allegiance and it isn’t to telling the truth. Most Americans are aware of it as their poll numbers show. You might think that the dismal showing of how untrusting the people are of the media and how untrustworthy they are would be a good thing that would make me happy but that is not the case.
The press, that is a free press is a vital part of our American Liberty. We no longer have a free press. This is not to say that there aren’t fearless, unbiased reporters of the news out there, Sharyl Attkisson formerly of CBS comes to mind, but they are few and far between and probably do not work for a major network or media outlet. It would be safe to say that in the media outlets we come in contact with the reporter/analyst has a leftist ideology that they adhere to and when they don’t they all must follow the dictates of their corporate masters. Even in the often maligned talk radio format there are but a few trustworthy disseminators of news analysis. Once the press becomes an arm of the political machines or the corporate boardroom it stops being a free press and the watchdog for the American people and it lowers itself to the status of the Soviets Pravda or Germany’s Vőlkischer Beobachter. Both news outlets became irrelevant to the Russian and German readership as they recognized them for what they were and were it not for government support would have dried up and disappeared. Our press has reached that point as newspaper sales have dropped along with advertising revenue and the ratings on television for most of the news are dismal. A good sign that American common sense is still vibrant but still is a disturbing bellwether for the direction of this Nation.
Crystal Ball
President Trump has followed through on almost all of his campaign promises. Massive deregulation of business that has been costing workers their jobs and consumers their money; recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and plans to move our embassy there; appointment of Federal judges who are in line with the Constitution not the “progressive” interventionist judge preferred by the left; signed an revised tax law (I won’t call it an “overhaul”) that cuts Corporate taxes and does give more money back to the average taxpayer. He has put the rest of the world on notice that things have changed a bit and we are not going to be bullied into bad deals. He appears to have stopped the disturbing and dangerous trend of appeasement to those who would do us harm. The North Koreans have had the equivalent of a bucket of ice water poured on them after years of appeasement from the Obama/Clinton administration. Trump has rightly attacked the terrible Iran deal that Obama and the establishment made with the worlds foremost terror state. And now he turns his attention to Immigration reform. This campaign promise is without a doubt the cornerstone of his Presidency. I fear that he will “compromise” with the democrats and establishment as Reagan did back in the 80’s and the American people will get screwed over once again. Back then Reagan agreed to an amnesty for a wall to be built. What we got was a flood of illegal immigrants and no wall. Republican corporate toadies who want to flood the labor market to keep wage costs down and the leftist Democrats who see these illegal immigrants as another voting block can not be trusted and should not be trusted. Will Trump fall into the same trap as Reagan? I hope not and we will see. His recent statements (though he has denied saying them) has the press and all the rats scurrying about covering their ears and crying “RACIST!” at him. If he called some countries “shitholes” he was once again correct. Ineloquent perhaps but right none the less. They are, which is why most of the inhabitants want to run from them. We have such communities in the U.S.A. (most major cities) and I don’t get why the great upset but it is sure fun to watch them contort with their hypocritical faux outrage. I hope that the initial statements about signing whatever they send him was just a ploy.
What will happen I am afraid is that the establishment and the left will through the Federal Reserve bide their time for the stock market correction to occur and use what will be an economic downturn as the ultimate “We told you so” hammer. The downturn will happen but how long and how painful to Americans is now determined by Washington not the markets and Washington does not like Donald Trump. I don’t believe they like us either, another fact which shows how much President Trump has in common with the common people.
